VISIT OF COMMANDER AUSTRALIAN OPERATION SOVEREIGN BORDERS

Commander Australian Joint Agency Task Force - Operation Sovereign Borders, Rear Admiral Brett Sonter, accompanied by Inspector Paul Edwards of Australian Border Force and the Australian Defence Attaché to Sri Lanka, visited the NDC on 8^th May 2026.

Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by the Commandant, followed by a formal call-on at the commandant’s office.

Operation Sovereign Borders delivered an insightful lecture on ‘Civil Maritime Security - An Australian Perspective’, highlighting significance of Australia’s maritime security concerns and economic dependence on the sea, civil military security threat and civil - military coordination. Later of the event the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka His Excellency Matthew Duckworth, arrived at NDC to accompany Rear Admiral Sonter to Mirissa.
