Brigadier K M G Bandaranayake joined Sri Lanka Army on 08 November 1992 as an Officer Cadet to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy, and having completed his basic military training, he joined Sri Lanka Signals Corps in 1994.

During his career, he has served numerous places in the capacity of Command, Staff and instructor appointments. He has held Course Officer, Company Commander and Senior Instructor at prestigious Sri Lanka Military Academy. Later, He commanded the 3rd and 10th Signal Regiments of Sri Lanka Signal Corps. Subsequently, he held the appointments of General Staff Officer 1 (Operations), Colonel General Staff and the Brigade Commander 561 Infantry Brigade.

He was entrusted with an overseas assignment as a Military Observer in UN Mission Western Sahara for one year Tour of Duty.

Further, Brigadier Gamini Bandaranayake is also a proud graduate of Sir John Kotelawala Defence University with Bachelor of Arts (Defence Studies). He achieved his Psc qualification from Army Command and Staff College too. He obtained post Graduate, Master in Management from Kotelawala Defence University. At present, he holds the appointment of Secretary at National Defence College.

Brigadier Gamini Bandaranayake is married and blessed with two twin daughters.
