Brigadier KA Pushpakumara RWP RSP USP ndc psc joined Sri Lanka Army on 03^th May 1993 as an Officer Cadet to Sri Lanka Military Academy and further undergone training from Pakistan Military Academy and having completed his basic military training, he joined 6^th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry in 27 December 1993.

During his career, he has served numerous places in the capacity of Command, Staff and instructor appointments. He commanded the 6^th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Army Commanders Security Unit. Later, He has held the appointment of Chief Instructor Training Command – Officers Training Wing at Army Training School Maduruoya. Subsequently, he has held the appointments of Staff Officer 1 (Strat & Doc) - Joint Operations, Strategic & Doctrine Wing at Diyathalawa, Colonel (Head of Non-Tech Division) - Research, Analysis and Projects & Development Branch, Colonel (Training) - Directorate of Training, Army Headquarters, Colonel General Staff - Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Brigade Commander - 232 Infantry Brigade and Brigadier (Coordinating) - Defence Services Command and Staff Collage.

He was entrusted with an two overseas assignments as a Staff Officer (U 1-Chief) and Military Observer in UN Mission United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) for one year Tour of Duty and as a Company Second in Command United Nations Pease Stabilization Mission in HAITI (MINUSTAH).

Further, Brigadier Asitha Pushpakumara is also a proud graduated from Army Command and Staff College and also graduated in National Defence Collage India. He obtained MA HRM in University of Northampton, United Kingdom, MBA in Strategic Leadership and Public Policy, IIT Madras India, Diploma in Senior Lavel Defence Management University of Devi Ahiliya, Indore, India and Diploma in HRM, HRMI Sri Lanka and certificate course in Defence and Diplomacy Under Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) in Colombo. At present, he holds the appointment of Secretary at National Defence College.

Brigadier Asitha Pushpakumara is married and blessed with son and daughter.
