The NDC contributes to the 17th International Research Symposium of KDU

The Kotelawala Defence University hosted the 17th International Research Symposium (IRC) focusing on the theme "Unravelling the Paradigm Shift: Revolutions in the Era of AI" on 26 and 27 of September 2024. The key event highlights included the intellectual contribution of the National Defence College.

The Commandant of NDC presented a thought-provoking paper titled "Combating Terrorism Content Online: Necessity of a Paradigm Shift" under the Defence and Strategic Studies. In his presentation, the Commandant emphasised the alarming evolution of violent extremism into terrorism, fuelled by modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and social media whereas he underscored the urgency of adapting new strategies to address these challenges effectively. Further, his paper provided a platform for understanding the necessity of cultivating awareness among critical and strategic thinkers and policymakers to combat the threats posed by online extremism.

In addition, the Secretary of NDC chaired the Technical Session III under Defence and Strategic Studies which focused on future technologies whilst contributing his intellectual expertise with his panel of presenters.

The event reaffirmed the National Defence College’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of contemporary security issues and promoting informed decision-making in the face of emerging threats. The course participants of NS&SS Course 3/2024 also participated in the event.
