The National Defence College Concludes International Collaborative Study Package (ICSP) 2024

As part of the course curriculum, the Course Participants of NS&SS Course 3/2024 embarked on significant study visits to India, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The visits which fostered international cooperation and knowledge exchange exposed the Course Participants to international best practices, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to address emerging security challenges. The visits commenced on 1 May and culminated on 11 May 2024.



ICSP TO INDONESIA

HEAD OF DELEGATION

The delegation consisted of twenty Course Participants including all foreign Course Participants, together with the Commandant NDC, SDS Navy, and the Academic Coordinator.

Throughout the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to explore notable landmarks, including the ASEAN Secretariat, where Indonesia plays a significant role in Southeast Asia. Further, the delegation visited Tentara National Indonesia (TNI) headquarters (Joint Force Headquarters of the Army, Navy, and Air Force), LEMHANNAS (National Resilience Institute), the Defence University in Jakarta, and military industries for the Army and Air Force in Bandung.

The delegation received a warm welcome at each location, and the thorough briefings significantly enriched the knowledge of the Course Participants.

ICSP TO INDIA

Delegation to India comprised 14 Course Participants headed by SDS Air Force and the Secretary of NDC also participated in the delegation.

Center for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), ‘Pradhanmantri Sagrahalaya’ (the Indian Prime Minister’s Museum), Ministry of External Affairs, Integrated Headquarters (IHQ) under the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Western Naval Command Headquarters of the Indian Navy, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which is the biggest aircraft manufacturing facility are some of the places visited by the delegation during their stay in India.

The arrangement of wreath laying to the Indian National War Memorial added extra glamour and value to the visit. The Course Participants had the remarkable opportunity to enrich their knowledge spectrum on how to tackle emerging regional security challenges and the way forward for Sri Lanka and India.

ICSP TO PAKISTAN

The SDS Army led the delegation to Pakistan consisting of 12 Course Participants with a member of the Faculty. The delegation visited military HQs, institutions and industries based in Lahore, Murree, Rawalpindi and Islamabad such as Joint Staff Headquarters, General HQ of Pakistan Army, Naval HQ of Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Naval War College, Army School of Logistics, Air Force Special Force Training Center etc.

During the visit, the Course Participants had enormous opportunities to have cordial interaction and discussions with high-profile intellectuals and officials on matters of mutual interest in regional and global security, military cooperation, and economic perspectives.

Through this immersive experience, the Course Participants were able to deepen their understanding of the diverse security landscapes in the region and explore potential areas of cooperation and partnership. The visits not only broadened their perspectives but also strengthened the bonds of friendship and mutual respect among the participating nations.
