Senior Directing Staff (Air Force)

Born in Wattala in the Western Province in1975, Air Commodore JMDRAP Jayamaha had his education from the De Mazenod College Kandana. He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as an Officer Cadet in 1995 and later was commissioned as a Pilot Oficer in the General Duties Pilot branch in 1997 on successful completion of the Basic Combat Training, Basic and Advance flying training courses respectively at SLAF Diyatalawa, FTW, SLAF Base Anuradhapura and Bangladesh Air Force Academy in Jessore.

He was posted to No2 Transport Wing in year 1996 as an operational Pilot where he commenced his operational flying career as a transport pilot in Antonov- 32 Aircraft as an officer cadet. During the tour of duty at the transport squadron, he got qualified on Beech king air-200 and Y-12 aircraft and soon assumed the command on Y- 12 and Antonov- 32 Aircraft as a flying officer and got upgraded as a VIP pilot subsequently.

On his brief tour of duty at SLAF Diyatalawa in the year 2003, he supervised ground combat training of recruits and cadets and reported back for flying duties at No 8 light transport squadron as a VIP/VVIP pilot. Subsequently he got posted to Flying Training Wing in year 2006 and got qualified as a flying instructor where he held office as Officer Commanding Flying.

He returned back to transport flying stream in 2009 as an instructor/operational and VVIP pilot where he got recategorized as an A2 instructor by the Central Flying School of Royal Air Force and subsequently became an instrument rating examiner.

He was selected to follow his staff course at the Air Force Command College Beijing China in year 2011/2012. He had served as a member of the faculty at the air wing of the Defence Services Command and Staff College Sapugaskanda Sri Lanka in year 2014 and 2019.

Air Commodore Jayamaha followed Comprehensive Crisis Management course at Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu Hawaii in 2015 and has completed United Nations Staff Officers’ Course at Bangladesh Institute for Peace Support Training in year 2016. Air Commodore Jayamaha completed the National Security Course at the National Defence College, Sri Lanka in year 2023.

He has accumulated 8400 flying hours in total including 1400 instructional flying hours on PT-6, Cessna C-150, Y-12, Beech King Air B-200, Antonov AN-32 and C-130 Hercules where he holds rating as instructor and examiner. Further he holds a Commercial Pilots License with an instructor rating.

He has held office as the Commanding Officer of No 02 Heavy Transport Squadron in years 2017 and 2018. Subsequently, he was appointed as director Naval and Air Operations at the Office of the Chief of Defense Staff and concurrently held office as Command Instrument Rating Examiner (Fixed Wing). He has completed tenures as the Base Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Bases Vavuniya and Anuradhapura.

He is married and has a son. Air Commodore Jayamaha enjoys creative writing and horse riding, holding a jockeys’ licence since teenage.
