Inaugural NDC Research Symposium 2022

The Inaugural ‘NDC Research Symposium - 2022’ of National Defence College was held at the Auditorium, Faculty of Graduate Studies, KDU today (17 August 2022) under the theme of ‘Exploring Multinodal Security Dynamics’.

The event was exclusively designed to promote defence research culture and create an environment to explore research ideas related to the discipline of National Security and Strategic Studies.

Contributions were invited from Course Participants on a broad range of topics pertaining to the fields of Strategic Studies, Sri Lanka Studies, International Security, Economic Security, Geo Politics, Science and Technology.

Presentations, productive panel discussions and interactions that took place during the Question-and-Answer session were instrumental to the audience in many aspects.

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the keynote address was delivered by Lalith Weeratunga, former Secretary and Senior Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence enlightened the audience with his precious views and ideas by emphasizing the significance of the symposium. Further, he highlighted that Sri Lanka has to keep its ‘eyes’ and ‘minds open to counter all Security Threats that are at her doorstep. Mr.Lalith Weeratunga stated that it is a great leap forward and hopefully the output of the NDC would certainly contribute towards facing future challenges to ensure everlasting peace and security. Mainly he stressed the importance of National Security in addition to his fruitful illustration.

Along with the Chief Guest and the Guest Speaker, the Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Tri-Force Prominent Invitees who represented both local and foreign Forces together with Distinguished Academia added more colour and glamour to the event.
