Welcome to National Defence College

The National Defence College of Sri Lanka (NDC-SL) is a premier institution established to meet international standards in strategic level of education. NDC-SL, the newest addition learning institution of National Security & Strategic Studies commenced functioning from 2021. The transformative journey that college embarked on to is committed to leave a lasting legacy of strategic insight and leadership for future generations.

As the Commandant, my vision is to further strengthen the institution's role as a leading hub dedicated to advance learning of national security and strategy. That will be guided by the values of ‘Wisdom, Prosperity, and Resilience’ , the college motto to equip future leaders with a deep understanding of the complex linkages between national security & development, encompassing national security, statecraft, governance, diplomacy, and international relations.

I envision the NDC-SL to continue its mission of equipping decision-makers with the analytical tools, strategic foresight, and leadership capabilities necessary to address the evolving challenges of a changing dynamic global environment. In today’s global order, where internal and external forces constantly shape national policies, our focus will be on fostering critical thinking, promoting collaboration, and developing the intellectual and strategic acumen required for sustainable national growth and security. Further, NDC-SL empowers senior military & police officers and institutional heads with forward-thinking through relevant intellectual instruction that aligns with Sri Lanka’s national security priorities and global security concerns.

The diverse curriculum of the National Security and Strategic Studies course is conducted in an intellectually stimulating environment, where participants engage in critical discussions, exchanging ideas, and deepen their understanding of global and regional security issues. This exposure to a wide range of strategic perspectives enhances our leaders' ability to operate effectively in a multinational environment and broadens their cognitive horizons.

Building on the legacy of our founders and past Commandants, I aim to elevate the NDC-SL’s stature both nationally and internationally, ensuring that our graduates continue to make meaningful contributions to Sri Lanka and Internationally. We are dedicated to maintain our commitment to excellence, adaptability , and resilience , driving the NDC-SL’s vision forward as the epitome of strategic excellence and intellectual rigor.
